2001 CEO Round Table and Symposium About This Project In efforts to achieve its mission of promoting and strengthening trade and investment dialogue between the EU and Canada in the bilateral and global economic interests of both industry and government, CERT members work with the Canadian and EU administrations to help shape the economic policy issues that are of key importance to this trans-Atlantic business community. In this context, CERT has taken the initiative to help business deal with the increasing investment risks that multiple merger review requirements can represent for cross-border mergers and acquisitions activity. CERT has assembled a range of partners from our membership and from prominent industry bodies to contribute recommendations to the Canadian and EU administrations for use in the convergence of their merger review rules and procedures. CERT further challenges both governments to show leadership in addressing this major barrier to doing business by adopting recommendations outlined in this report in efforts to develop an effective multilateral merger review framework, notably, in WTO negotiations on trade and competition.
